Adam’s mixing a Mexican feast

A GLOSSOP teenager who has reached the final of the Advertiser’s Master Chef competition really intends to spice things up.
Adam Bridges, 14, of Bute Street, is the only finalist from Glossop and the youngest in the competition.
The Glossopdale Community College pupil, who was born in Texas and lived there until he was five, was selected as one of nine finalists after submitting his magnificent Mexican meal idea of wine-simmered vegetable tacos.
Living on the American border with Mexico and near to a large Sony factory, Adam’s mum learned a lot about cooking from her foreign friends and passed her passion for cooking to her children.
"My mum spoke Spanish with me until I was three because we lived on the border with Mexico. She was influenced by the Hispanic culture there and learned a lot about cooking from her Mexican, Japanese and American friends. Since we moved back to Britain my mum has continued to cook a variety of dishes from around the world and has passed her passion on to me," said Adam, whose 12-year-old brother Matthew, also a pupil at Glossopdale, is also a good cook.
Adam added: "We’ve always been vegetarian and that has inspired us to seek out creative ways of cooking with many alternative ingredients. I’ve really enjoyed food technology at Glossopdale, where I’ve been encouraged to be imaginative when producing a traditionally non-vegetarian dish."
Adam, who is in the school’s wind band and enjoys taking part in drama at the Partington Theatre, will join the other finalists at the cook off at Tameside College on 3 July.
