THE fire service were called when a toddler became stuck in a car during soaring temperatures on Saturday.

A team from Glossop fire station had to tape a window of the car with parcel tape before shattering the glass.

It was 4pm and the car was parked near Melandra Castle, Gamesley. The two year old boy was stuck for around 15 minutes.

Following the incident, the crew were sent to Cottage Lane, Gamesley to a fire in the woods which is believed to have been started deliberately. It took them around 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman from the station warned of the dangers of deliberate fires. He said: “We managed to put it out quite quickly but while we’re dealing with an incident which was started maliciously we are not available to deal with other fires.”

Anyone with information about the fire should contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

THREE people have been arrested following a moor fire. Glossop fire brigade joined crews from West Yorkshire to extinguish the blaze on Heyden Moor, Holme Moss, at 9.30pm on Sunday.

The team from Glossop used four back pack sprayers to fight the flames which damaged 150 square metres of moor land.

A spokesman from Glossop fire station said: “Luckily one of the United Utilities game keepers happened to see some people in the vicinity and they were arrested.

“Just for information we’ve been informed that it is a site of special interest - all of that area is as it’s a national park so the maximum fine for anyone who damages the site is £20,000.”

A SHED fire in Gamesley led to a call to the fire service on Saturday. Two pumps from Glossop were sent to the blaze, which is believed to be accidental, on Glossop Road, at 5.30am.
