A MODEL from Simmondley wowed the judges at the Miss Manchester pageant.

Reem Al Nawassri  finished runner-up out of 40 finalists at the beauty competition held at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.

She impressed a celebrity panel of judges, which included Coronation Street actresses Kym Ryder and Tupele Dorgu, ex-boxer Frank Bruno and former Manchester United footballer Lee Sharpe.

"I’m really chuffed," said Reem, 21, from Storth Bank, whose vital statistics are 32-26-38.

Reem won a fashion shoot to model the Lipsy clothes label next year as her prize.

"About 100 girls entered the competition. That was whittled down to 40 for the final and then judges on the night got it down to 10, and then the last three. I was very excited to hear the result and didn’t expect it, the girls were all really pretty," she said."I’ve been modelling since I was 16 as I’ve always enjoyed it. It’s just what I‘ve always wanted to do. Now as a full-time professional model I’m trying to get my face out there and get more work!"

Away from the catwalk, Reem is a member of an R&B girl band called Flame which she formed with four pals.

The youngest of three girls, her father came from Iraq to study and her mum is from Cheadle. The family moved to Simmondley when she was five.

She attended the local primary school and then went to Glossopdale Community College, studying drama and dance at Marple College and beauty therapy at Tameside College.
