WINNER: Cathy Wilmot impressed judges with the winning picture of her grandchildren in Howard Park

Comp win means Cathy is snap happy

A GLOSSOP grandmother is celebrating after scooping first prize out of more than 200 entries in a photography competition.
Cathy Wilmot’s photograph of a close-up of her four grandchildren – Peter, 14, Callum, 12, Rhiannon, 10 and seven-year-old Christopher – enjoying Howard Park in Glossop was judged the pick of the bunch in the High Peak Council competition.
A delighted Cathy, of North Road, said: "I was over the moon when a lady rang me to say I’d won – at first I thought it was somebody having a laugh!"
She added: "I’ve been interested in photography for a long, long time. I’ve taken lots of photographs of my grandchildren. I just think it’s nice for all the lovely memories. That was just one picture I chose at random with all four of them on.We’d just gone to Howard Park and had a lovely afternoon and that was taken before they came home.It must have been September/October last year, late autumn, when all the trees and leaves were looking lovely. Howard Park always looks beautiful at that time of year."
Now Cathy, 55, who has two daughters, is looking forward to attending two forthcoming concerts at Buxton Opera House with husband Peter, who is also 55, as part of her first prize. In addition, she has also won four £25 vouchers for meals at the Old Hall Hotel in the spa town.
Cathy is a member of the U3A camera club in Glossop which from June, will meet at Bradbury House on Market Street 2–4pm every fourth Tuesday.
