Birds of prey keep boredom at bay

BIRDS of prey, dodgeball and fitness camps are some of the activities lined up to keep boredom at bay in Glossop during the school holiday.
All activities will take place at the town’s leisure centre on High Street East next week.
A ‘pink and glitter’ session for girls aged six to 11 takes place 1-2.30pm on Monday. Meanwhile rugby, cricket and other games makes up a ‘lads afternoon’ between the same hours. The girly session costs £3.50 while the sporty fun costs £2.25. Places for both have to be booked in advance.
The ultimate bird of prey show takes place from 2-3pm on Wednesday. This will include flying the birds in a controlled environment as well as the chance for youngsters to hold them. This will cost £3.50 per child and £12 for a family ticket of four.
For older youngsters aged 11-15, fitness camps have been arranged, starting at 10am, 11.30am and 4pm. Supervised fitness sessions by qualified instructors will involve cardiovascular exercise, resistance, balance and co-ordination workouts, hurdles, ladder and sports sessions. Each course costs £20, but places are limited so booking is essential.
There will be a chance to play dodgeball and benchball from 9.30-10.30am on Thursday for youngsters aged seven to 11. It costs £2.25 but places need to be booked in advance.
And on Friday, children aged eight to 13 are promised the full works, from 9.30am-4pm. Following a supervised day of activities at the leisure centre, children will then walk to Glossop Pool on Dinting Road. Children should bring their own lunch and be able to swim two lengths in a recognised stroke. Cost is £10 each or £9 for two siblings.
