A GLOSSOP hotelier says his business is "bleeding to death" because of a ‘noisy’ builders merchants next door.
Ian Wilkinson, owner of the Wind In The Willows hotel on Hurst Road, claims guests are not returning because of the noise of JCB sirens early in the morning at nearby Glossopdale Aggregates.
"We’ve lost 12 per cent of our turnover and three staff lost their jobs. The guests aren’t coming back and we are bleeding to death," he told a planning meeting.
He said he was fed up of "broken promises" he claims have been given by the firm over the last 12 months.
Mr Wilkinson also criticised council officers in taking 11 months to inform him of an enforcement notice regarding operating hours at the builders merchants, which is based on Hurst Mills industrial estate.
But the owner of Glossopdale Aggregates said he is thinking of moving because of ‘aggravation’ from Mr Wilkinson and that he has already tried to accommodate his concerns.
Andrew Figg said: "I went up to the hotel to try and sort it out between us but he (Mr Wilkinson) wouldn’t answer the door.
"The golf club starts mowing the greens at 7.30am but he seems to have got it in for us.
"We’re getting that much hassle off the hotel I am going to look at other premises between Charlesworth and Broadbottom."
The merchants had wanted to extend bagging times, but High Peak councillors opted to maintain its opening hours, which are 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am-1pm on Saturdays. The merchants had wanted to open to the public 10am-2pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, and extend the hours it could move and bag aggregates from 10am-2pm weekdays and 10am-1pm Saturdays to 8.30am-4.30pm weekdays and 9am-1pm Saturdays.
