A quiet break away
Vanessa Cornall9/ 6/2008
TAKING a break from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives can sometimes seem more trouble than it’s worth.
By the time you’ve finished work on Friday, found someone to look after the family pets and packed up the car, two nights away hardly seems enough.
But spending two relaxing evenings in a log cabin retreat in the Lake District can do wonders for the mind, body and soul.
Based in an ideal position, Lakeland Leisure Village off junction 35 of the M6 gives you the opportunity to make a quick quality weekend away possible.
The easy hour’s drive from the heart of Accrington allowed me to unwind and anticipate the weekend of relaxation ahead.
On arrival, my partner and I were blown away by the tranquility of the complex. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village of lodges made us want to explore.
After a brief tour we were able to check out our cabin which would have comfortably slept four. It had its own fully working kitchen, dining room, lounge and bathroom with an overhead shower.
Spacious
It was a lot more spacious and luxurious than we had imagined and we found it easy to understand why people bought holiday homes like this.
After dropping off our bags we walked the short distance into the town of Carnforth and enjoyed a traditional pub lunch.
Carnforth is only small but it did have many little gift shops for us to browse as well as two big supermarkets.
After a short time exploring we decided to head back to the complex and take advantage of the leisure facilities.
The state-of-the-art leisure complex boasts some of the very best facilities including a newly-refurbished 15-metre pool, air-conditioned gym, steam room and two beauty therapy suites overlooking the lake.
The luxurious steam room even had a TV for us to watch while we laid back and relaxed. The only criticism I could find was that Back to The Future II was not my favourite film!
After a quick shower we headed back to our lodge to get ready to go out. We were booked into the beautiful Water’s Edge restaurant, which looks out over the lake.
Atmosphere
It had a real Mediterranean atmosphere which, if you closed your eyes, you could have believed you were abroad.
The food was absolutely fabulous. Both the soup and the calamari oozed flavour and texture, while leaving us both anticipating our main courses.
Those were even better – the steak melted on the tongue and the chicken was as exciting at it had promised to be. A trip to the complex just to try the resturant could definitely be a day trip possibility.
After the meal we moved over into the bar and enjoyed a few convivial drinks with other families and couples staying at the complex.
The following morning we were both up early for our visit to the beauty therapist. I had a relaxing deluxe manicure which allowed to me to enjoy a hand and arm massage as well as having my nails shaped and painted.
My partner, even though he was a little apprehensive, thoroughly enjoyed his neck, shoulder and back massage.
After we were both finished, we spent the rest of the day in Lancaster, looking around the shops and stopping off for lunch. We were both able to really use the time to unwind and get away from our day-to-day lives.
Lakeland Leisure Village is open 11 months of the year and is situated on the doorstep of the Arnside and Silverdale areas of outstanding natural beauty, while only 20 minutes from the Lake District and 15 minutes from the Yorkshire Dales.
