DANCE: DV8, The Lowry, Friday and Saturday

A POETIC exploration of hard-hitting issues will be tackled by award-winning physical theatre troupe DV8 at The Lowry on Friday.

Since its inception in 1986, the company has redefined boundaries of dance and theatre, and its new production, To Be Straight With You, is no exception. It’s based on hundreds of hours of audio interviews and is an unflinching look at tolerance, intolerance, religion and sexuality. A multi-ethnic cast presents verbatim theatre work around 85 interviews and vox pops conducted with people living in the UK.

This included members of the clergy, asylum seekers, members of human rights organisations and people opposed to homosexuality on the grounds of their religious beliefs. All the text used in the show is taken directly from these interviews and, using movement, animated projections, words and music, the cast of nine present a riveting show that is guaranteed to stimulate debate.
